On July 4, 1776, after years of conflicts and clashing policies, the thirteen American colonies declared themselves independent of Great Britain and their own sovereign nation, the United States of America. This announcement led to the American Revolution, a war between the new nation and England. These documents show England's reaction to the revolt.
