Tassafaronga, Battle of On 30 November–1 December 1942, while bringing supplies to Guadalcanal, Admiral Raizo Tanaka’s 8 Japanese destroyers defeated Rear Admiral Carlton Wright’s 5 US cruisers and 7 destroyers. US losses: 1 cruiser sunk, 3 cruisers disabled, 400 casualties. Japanese losses: 1 destroyer sunk.
