Adam Smith
Adam Smith (June 16, 1723-July, 17 1790) was a Scottish political economist, the founder of modern economics, and a philosopher. Smith thought that social progression would arise from an economy that self-regulated and supported free trade. His most famous work, The Wealth of Nations, argues this point. Smith also taught, first giving public lectures at the University of Edinburgh, then gaining professorship in 1751 at Glasgow University. In addition to Wealth of Nations, Smith also wrote The Theory of Moral Sentiments and Essays on Philosophical Subjects.
