Monroe Doctrine

Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was a foreign policy of the United States of America that was established in 1823. It declared that the United States would intervene if any further attempts to impose control on countries in the Americas were made by any European nation, but that the U.S. would not meddle with already-existing European colonies. The policy had long-reaching effects and lasted for decades.
