Charlemagne Crowned as Emperor

Charlemagne Crownedas Emperor
As King of the Franks, Charlemagne united most of Western Europe under a single crown, and he laid the foundation for what would eventually become France, Germany, and the Netherlands. He would go on to be the King of Italy and be crowned Holy Roman Emperor by Pop Leo III. This collection of documents describe his achievements as the first emperor in Western Europe since the fall of the Roman Empire.
