The legendary prophet Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and freed them from slavery. The liberated Israelites then wandered in the desert for 40 years before being allowed to enter the promised land. The Israelite's exodus from Egypt and their ensuing struggles and wanderings are told in the books Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy of the Torah and the Old Testament.
