Richard Hakluyt



Richard Hakluyt
Richard Hakluyt (c. 1552-November 23, 1616) was an English geographer, clergyman, and author. He graduated from Oxford University and shortly thereafter entered into the clergy. Hakluyt promoted the settlement of North America in his writing. He was fascinated with travelogues and even translated some of the early Spanish explorers' writings into English. Haklyut wrote Divers Voyages Touching the Discoverie of America and The Principal Navigations, Voiages, Traffiques and Discoveries of the English Nation.
