Many persons have contributed their talents to this publication, which was prepared under the direction of Linda N. Brown, Charles W. Bender, Sandra Glasser, and Henry J. Gwiazda II in the Office of Public Programs, National Archives and Records Administration. Principally responsible for the text of the original edition were Virginia C.
